Career transitions often come with a mix of emotions—excitement, fear, uncertainty, and even grief. When you start a new job, you may feel exhilarated but also anxious about fitting in and proving yourself. Conversely, losing a job can lead to feelings of inadequacy and fear about the future.

These feelings are entirely normal, yet they can be paralyzing if you try to face them alone. The discomfort of transitions can stem from various factors, including:

  • Fear of the Unknown: Stepping into a new role or leaving a familiar environment can trigger anxiety about what lies ahead.

  • Loss of Identity: Our jobs often define a significant part of who we are. Losing a job or changing careers can lead to an identity crisis.

  • Pressure to Succeed: The expectation to quickly adapt and excel in a new position can create immense pressure.

Recognizing these feelings is the first step toward managing them.  If you are in a transition, or even if you are not, which of these most resonate? Share in the comments, for yourself, or on behalf of “a friend.”
