Practical Steps to Build Your Support System
Now that we understand the importance of community, trusted colleagues, and coaches, let’s explore some practical steps to build your support system during career transitions.
1. Attend Networking Events
Look for local networking events, workshops, or conferences in your industry. These gatherings provide an excellent opportunity to meet new people and expand your network. Every time I attend a networking event, I meet great people and say I need to do it more, then I don't. Don't be like me, get out there. Meet great people.
2. Join Online Communities
Social media platforms and professional networking sites like LinkedIn offer various groups where you can connect with others in your field. Engage in discussions, share your experiences, and seek advice. Many people genuinely want to help.
3. Reach Out to Former Colleagues
Don’t hesitate to reconnect with former colleagues. They can provide support, share job leads, or even collaborate on projects. It's good idea to make this a habit all the time, not just when you need something.
4. Consider Professional Coaching
If you’re feeling particularly lost or overwhelmed, consider hiring a professional coach. They can provide personalized guidance tailored to your specific needs. I am a coach, and I need a coach. A coach can help you see your situation in new ways and open your eyes to opportunities.
5. Volunteer

Volunteering for organizations related to your field can help you meet new people while also gaining valuable experience. It’s a win-win situation that can lead to new opportunities. When we give to others, we experience joy, hope and a shared purpose. What could be wrong with that.
