Why we must have a vision

I just made this post on LinkedIn and thought I would share it here as well
đ¶ Do you know where you're going to? Do you like the things that life is showing you? đ¶ (Mahogany theme song, IYKYK) If no to question 1 and no to question 2, let's talk. So many of us have lost our dreams pursuing survival. It is possible to thrive and achieve our dreams, but first, we must know where we're going. This is Module 2 of our program, Leadership Launchpad 90. I've been having fun recording the sessions with an audience. It's not too late to join. We'll record Module 5 on July 15. DM me for more information. Which one of these applied to you at some point in your life or career?Â

In many of my coaching sessions, I'll ask a client, "Where do you see yourself in 10 years?" More often than I would like, the answer is, "I don't know," or "I've never thought that far ahead." This is a tragedy, in my opinion. One I want to correct for anyone I coach. Having a dream and a vision, aligned with our values, gives us direction. It actually makes decisons easier. If I'm in college, and my vision is to be a doctor, I can't accept every invitation from my non-college friends to party every weekend. That activity is not aligned to my vision. If I want to retire early and join the FIRE (Financially Independent Retire Early) movement, maybe I don't have 3 lake houses at 35 (but go ahead if it fits your financial model - I'll come visit)
A vision gives us hope, something look forward to and to work towards. It focuses our activities and priorities.
What's your vision? Do you have a 10 year plan? A 5 year plan? A 1 year plan?
